Sponsorship

NZPC is proud to sponsor & be associated with..

NZPC has many and varied sponsorships in and around Hamilton and the Waikato. Following is a list of organizations we currently sponsor:

Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust

_PGI4550_1.jpgFor some time, NZPC have been involved in the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust and are now their principal printing sponsor. This internationally significant restoration projects consists of 3,400 hectares of forested, extinct volcano which stands majestically on the landscape in the Waikato Basin.

The Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust is a community-led charitable Trust whose vision is to remove introduced mammalian pests and predators from Maungatautari forever, and restore the forest to a healthy diversity of indigenous plants and animals not seen in our lifetime.

In August 2006, the Trust completed a 47km pest proof fence which skirts around the forest edge of the mountain and forms a complete barrier to all pest species.

Results from recent extensive pest monitoring suggest that only small numbers of four pest species – mice, rabbit, hares and goats remain on the mountain. “We have effectively eradicated 11 of the 15 pest species. It’s been two years since we have detected any kind of stoats, weasels, pigs, deer, cats, ferrets, hedgehogs, rats and possums” said Maungatautari Trust chief Executive Jim Mylchreest. “It’s incredibly exciting – we are very close to being pest free. No mice were detected in the last monitoring round but we will need a few more clear monitoring rounds before we are convinced they have been removed. In the meantime, as volunteers and staff continue to monitor the 2,500 tracking tunnels across the mountain, we will step up our activities around removing the last rabbits and hares so that we can confidently cross two more pest species off the list.”

Two enclosures on the mountain were declared pest free in early 2006 and since then the Trust has reintroduced Kiwis, Kokopu (native fish), Kaka and Takahe. In fact it has the only breeding pair of Takahe on the mainland North Island, New Zealand.

Takahe_2_together_Sept_06.JPGLast Christmas marked the first kiwi chick to be born on the mountain in 100 years. Reintroductions of Hihi, Robins, Whiteheads, Kokako and Tuatara are scheduled for the next few years. The Trust is a great community project which we encourage everyone to get behind and help out in any way they can.

“New Zealand Printing Company have been great! They sponsor our members’ newsletter in full colour which helps to bring the project alive for those who can’t visit as often as they would like. NZPC are a friendly, professional team – just fabulous to work with.”
- Jim Mylchreest, Chief Executive, Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust.

Here are some examples of the member’s newsletter that NZPC print for Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust as part of their sponsorship programme.
